Do you want to make money online? If you do, here are ten character traits you will need to make a living online.

This may seem obvious. Don’t people work online, whether they are trying to earn a living or whether they are trying to earn extra money, just for that reason? How much you do or don’t enjoy what you’re doing will show up, however in the success, or lack of success your online business has. You won’t succeed if you don’t have a passion for what you do, whether you design web pages, write, or bake.

A lot of people fail when they work online because they aren’t organized enough. The fun part of your business will be selling your products or services and actually performing services for others. Nevertheless, you will need to do recordkeeping, bookkeeping, keep track of bills, and file orders. If these things are not done properly, your business will fail. You will have to manage your money wisely to keep your business running. While an online business is different from other types of businesses, you may still need money to do some of these things.

Your risks do need to be calculated risks and not foolish ones, but you can’t escape the fact that you’ll need to take them. It can be disastrous to take too many risks, but taking too few can result in a slow failure. You need to weigh each risk you might take with the possible rewards which could follow. Without doing these things, your business will never succeed.

No matter how much you promote, market, or advertise or how good your products and services are, all of your efforts will be wasted if you don’t complete the deal. You need to ask the potential customer to buy. If you don’t ask, you won’t make money.

Do you honestly think you can succeed overnight because of your great product or service only? This won’t happen if people have never heard of you. Write blog posts, attend local chambers of commerce meetings, go to conferences – just make sure you keep building your profile in your industry.

Don’t be afraid to stop a project and do another if what you’re doing isn’t working. While you may have lost a little money in the process, you may make far more money with a different one. Failure is an option, and it’s often the better decision.

You may not be the best speaker or salesperson, but you have to be willing to communicate with the public regularly, or you won’t sell your products or services. If you aren’t a natural communicator, learn from master communicators like Steve Jobs.

Keep up with simple technology that will help your business by reading about it or talking with those who do know. Don’t be afraid to adopt new technological innovations – they often boost efficiency and productivity, making your business more profitable.
